Dear Readers,
It has been a long time away from writing. During this time, I have graduated from my former university with a 2:1, but happily a First in my dissertation, worked, struggled, found joy, and decided to go into Law school.
It’s interesting what a dissertation on the Albigensian Crusade can do to you.
I should elaborate – I think my interest in International and Human Rights law was only strengthened by the subject of my dissertation. Essentially, the text I was looking at was the the only one of the three contemporary (or relatively contemporary) chronicles to have a non-favourable view of the Albigensian Crusade, and, by extension, of Simon IV de Montfort, who could well be considered a war criminal under current legislation (Future blog essay incoming? Perhaps.) De Montfort very early on became the military lead of an operation which has been described as genocide and occupation (by the Northern French of the Southern French).
Yes. This requires an entire blogpost to itself.
Another thing that happened as I finished my degree is that I, unfortunately, experienced being stalked. This experience has also probably contributed to my desire to study and practice the law. And this experience, I feel, ought to also have a blogpost dedicated to it, for I feel that there undoubtedly students and other persons who may benefit from the knowledge I accrued as a result of this painful ordeal. There have been other struggles, but these are ones I may decide to write about at a later date, or not at all. Life is a rich tapestry, but I need not explain all stitches.
As a result, I currently take all wins and absolutely nothing for granted. Stability is a nice thing which must be enjoyed whilst it is had. I still remain true to my motto of staying At Least Afloat.
And as I have a second chance at studying, and remain a (relatively) young adult, and still have much to say, I am resuming the writing of this blog, and some rather overdue reviews of my worthy colleagues’ theatrical works. Stay tuned. I may be writing reminiscently on things I wish I had known in my undergraduate years, I might rant on the challenges of a postgraduate degree described by the lecturer as “bootcamp” (help), and I probably will be posting more recipes. (By the by, would anyone be wanting to buy a Thermomix? If so, please drop me a line. Although potentially an expensive purchase in the short-term, it can save a lot of money in the long-term, particularly if you have a tendency to spend as much on takeaways as reported in this article in The Edinburgh Tab.)
Anyway, fellows, Spanish lesson-planning and my Law reading await me, as does dinner. I will write soon
In the meantime, I hope life is going swimmingly, or that you are, at the very least, Afloat 🙂
