Paris – Day 47

Well, friends, I got on the 7.33 bus today. This one terminates elsewhere. It took me 40 or so minutes to walk to work as a result. Try, fail, try better, fail better.

Learn.

My boss and I moved the salt and still had much to tidy. It currently resides in a bin. And may it not be touched until such doomsday as requires us to call upon its dark magic (ahem, powers to melt snow as impure water has a lower boiling and melting point).

Also, remember the instructions I drew up on how to use our office chairs? They were too long. We don’t have even half of the levers or buttons on our chairs that the instructions say we do. And our version, which we sent to HR to proofread, was not proofread and sent out to the entire staff by the HR intern! My boss and I quickly had to test the parameters of my chair for reference and rewrite our instructions sheet, and send it round. We got so much stick from the Operations Manager.

Other than that and the usual looking after the post and sorting invoices, I have been shamelessly working on my visa application. Tomorrow it shall be ready to send. I got my photos this evening. Both the nearest booths, at the Station and the Town Hall (mairie) were en panne (kaput), so on the advice of the lady at the Town Hall I went to the nearby photographer. He is a stern but kind man. He took my photos and told me I must send all 6 of them, even if the Préfecture asked for only 3, as, if I cut them, I cut the label saying they are fit for ID use. He made me look quite lovely in the photos. I’m pleased.

I also went into our local art gallery and framers today about framing my copy of a watercolour of the Radcliffe Camera by my friend Joshua. Well, truth be told, I wondered in out of sheer curiosity for the shop and its wares, and only then asked. The framer is an artist by training, and shows her art and that of local artists. It was really nice to see her work. Lots of portraits of women, as big as the canvas, proud and serene and beautiful.

Here’s to victories tomorrow, and to a sound weekend. To you, too 💛
